Can you pick up a caber, balance it on your shoulder, run some metres with it and then pivot it from shoulder, release it up in the air and try and force the caber end over end to ideally land at 12 o'clock?
The caber is a seriously heavy and cumbersome beam made typically from larch that can weigh between 50 and 80 kilos and measure 5-6 metres in length and caber tossing is a feat of strength and technique and wonderful to watch (from a safe distance). The George Hotel has proudly sponsored The World Caber Tossing Championship for nearly a decade. The current champion is Czech Vlad Tulacek. The next World Caber Tossing Championships take place at Inveraray Highland Games on Tuesday 22nd July 2025.
